TimeS Top 10 British Invasions - Rob is #8

As former tabloid editor Piers Morgan slides into Larry King's slot on CNN with his new talk show Piers Morgan Tonight, TIME takes a look at some other British exports that made it big across the pond

8. Robert Pattinson
The 23-year-old actor, born and raised in London, thought he'd hit the big time when he landed his first blockbuster role playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth installment in the Harry Potter series. But it wasn't until Pattinson was picked to play seductive vampire Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight saga that he got the chance to really sink his teeth into Hollywood. Since then, he's sparked a Beatlesque frenzy among Twihard fans and written an alternative, dark and intense chapter in the annals of U.S. pop culture. Now if we could only figure out whether or not he's single.

Gone is the slouchy, wild-haired vampire pin-up that we know and love: RPattz walked the red carpet in Gucci, looking significantly sharper than he has for some time.

15 Hot Movies of 2011

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS (April 22)
''To have a costar who is this reliable, this sensitive and circumspect and intelligent — it's just fabulous,'' says Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds). He's not talking about Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson, who play the star performer and veterinary student in an adaptation of Sara Gruen's best-seller about a traveling circus in the 1930s. He's talking about Tai, a 9,000-pound Asian elephant.

BREAKING DAWN: PART 1 (Nov. 18)
Even if you don't know each plot twist and turn from the final book in Stephenie Meyer's best-selling series, every self-respecting Twihard is aware that Breaking Dawn features Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) becoming vampire man and wife and sharing a marital bed for the first time. ''Finally!'' laughs director Bill Condon. ''It is one of the most anticipated scenes, and I spent a tremendous amount of time thinking about it. You want to play with what people expect and maybe subvert it a little and surprise them.''

Rob on Forbes' 'Best-Paid Celebrities Under 30' List

Robert Pattinson, 25
$20 million

With the end of the Twilight franchise in sight, Pattinson is preparing himself for a post-vampire career. The romance Remember Me earned only $56 million but that's not bad considering the film had a tiny budget of $16 million. Water for Elephants, costarring Reese Witherspoon, also performed decently at the box office proving that audiences are willing to accept Pattinson as more than an undead heartthrob.

Rob is 8th Richest Brit Under 30 Beating Prince William

Figures compiled for the Sunday Times Rich List illustrate just how lucrative the Harry Potter and Twilight film franchises have been for their stars.

Just as JK Rowling’s wizard adventures have beaten Stephenie Meyer’s vampire saga at the box office, Radcliffe has won the wealth battle against Pattinson.

Radcliffe, 21, is now said to be worth a staggering £48 million thanks to his appearances as Harry Potter on the big screen and his stage work.

Pattinson, 24, who appeared in the Harry Potter movies before going on to play Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, has amassed a £32 million fortune.

The figures put them in fifth and eighth positions respectively on the list of wealthiest Britons under 30.

With Keira Knightley’s £30 million securing tenth place in the table, it seems being a young actor pays better than being a young royal.

Prince William and his brother Harry only make 11th, with their inheritance from their late mother and land ownership worth £28 million.

That did at least put them ahead of Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who tied for 13th with £24 million.

"I'm so sick of my own pallid, gray complexion," he's said. "Having that makeup put on every single day, as soon as you get it taken off, it's like, 'Oh, you do look normal. You look healthy now.'"
